PILATES STATEN ISLAND offers a 625 hour comprehensive
teacher training (includes a 150 hour apprenticeship) following the guidelines set forth by the Pilate Method Alliance (PMA). The
Program teaches the Integrated Contemporary Pilates Method
(ICPM) and prepares participants for the PMA National Examination.
Additionally, it takes the student on a comprehensive Pilates
journey including philosophical, theoretical, practical, and
scientific applications of the method. The program explores
and integrates aspects of both classical and contemporary
methodology and has a strong focus on functional rehabilitation
principles without losing the vision of J.H. Pilates. The
coursework revolves around theory, physical review, exercise
dissection (anatomical reference and biomechanical principles),
postural analysis, practice teaching (with cueing), observation,
and client programming and reassessment. Emphasis
will not be lost on Pilates’ vision of fluid and dynamic
movement or its stabilizing principles. Upon completion of
the program the graduate will have an exceptional foundation
for both teaching a practice. Program participants cannot test out until completion of the entire program. Continuing Education offerings will be updated on this site as they become available.
