Welcome to the Pilates Staten Island library of recorded live mat classes. Each class was taught to a live group.
If you are new to Pilates or are an experienced practitioner there are plenty of classes for you. If you have any health conditions, you are advised to get clearance from your physician before starting your classes.
All classes begin with a standing and then sitting warm-up and it is recommended to do this warm-up before we start the mat flow. We use two tennis balls as part of the warm up for the feet. Some warm-up exercises are repeated every class but the warm-up has a different
focus and each class also has a different ultimate focus. Over time the method of teaching will make sense and you will notice a difference in your practice and ability to achieve the exercises that are a challenge for you.
Joseph Pilates called his method “contrology”. This is the coordinated and controlled movement of the body with strong mental focus and incorporated breathing. I tell all of my students that the true practice of the Pilates method is a journey and I’m just the tour guide.
